The Clean Power 2.2 litre D-4D engine* with its unique D-CAT (Diesel Clean Advanced Technology) system is among the cleanest in its category. At its heart is the Diesel Particulate NOx Reduction (DPNR) system. This cuts NOx and particulate matter levels to respectively 50% and 90% below the demands of 2005 Euro 4 legislation. <br /><br /> The electrically activated Variable Nozzle Turbocharger and piezoelectric injectors combine to increase combustion efficiency. This yields 400 Nm of torque and 130 kW (177 DIN hp) at 3,600 rpm, boosting the engine above its class. Corolla Verso offers a choice of transmissions. The D-4D 177 and 136 DIN hp engines have an ultra-smooth 6-speed manual transmission. The1.6 litre VVT-i comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. <br /><br /> With the 1.8 litre VVT-i engine you can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed MultiMode. MultiMode enables you to either control the gears directly or adopt a relaxed, hassle-free drive. For added fun, switch to the ‘Sport’ mode.
Corolla Verso’s suspension system has been engineered to deliver a satisfyingly smooth ride. <br /><br /> Torsion beam rear suspension provides outstanding ride comfort, even when all seven seats are occupied. MacPherson strut front suspension ensures outstanding straight-line stability and excellent cornering performance.

<strong>Great performance, superb fuel economy</strong><br /><br /> The 2.2 litre D-4D 135 achieves best-in-class performance with low emissions. Its top speed is 195 km/h. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 10.0 seconds. <br /><br /> The increased output engine produces 100 kW (136 DIN hp) at 3,600 rpm and a remarkable 310 Nm torque. Yet the fuel economy figure is an outstanding 6.4 litres of diesel per 100 km. <br /><br /> With an advanced diesel particulate filter (DPF) this engine produces only 0.017 g/km PM emissions and 0.22 g/km NOx, making it among the cleanest on the road.
<strong>Low emissions and high performance</strong><br /><br /> The top of the range 2.2 litre D-4D 180 Clean Power engine offers an unrivalled driving experience with low emissions. It produces 130 kW (177 DIN hp) at 3,600 rpm and generates 400 Nm of torque. With a top speed of 205 km/h, accelerating the Verso from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 9.0 seconds. <br /><br /> Using the unique Toyota D-CAT (Diesel Clean Advanced Technology) system, the engine boasts the smallest combined NOx (0.15 g/km) and PM (0.003 g/km) emissions for any comparable diesel engine. It delivers outstanding fuel economy too: 6.1 litres/100 km.
<strong>Powerful and economical</strong><br /><br /> The 1.6 litre VVT-i petrol engine provides 81 kW (110 DIN hp) power output at 6,000 rpm yielding 150 Nm of torque. Achieving 100 km/h in 12.7 seconds, its top speed is 175 km/h. <br /><br /> Meanwhile, fuel consumption is only 7.5 litres/100 km with only 0.02 g/km NOx emissions.
<strong>Best-in-class fuel consumption</strong><br /><br /> The 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engine delivers 95 kW (129 DIN hp) at 6,000 rpm and 170 Nm torque. It reaches 100 km/h in 10.8 seconds (12.7 seconds with Multi-mode Manual Transmission) with a top speed of 195 km/h. <br /><br /> It’s best-in-class with regard to fuel consumption: 7.5 litres/100 km. And produces only 0.01 g/km NOx emissions.
Corolla Verso can be equipped with up to nine SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) airbags*. Also, the car is the first in its segment equipped with a standard driver’s knee airbag. <br /><br /> In a frontal collision the driver’s and front passenger’s airbags inflate quickly in two stages, depending on the extent of the impact, to help prevent injuries. <br /><br /> There are SRS side airbags for the front seats, and SRS curtain shield airbags for both the front and rear seats. <br /><br /> * Depending on grade and/or country.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) is standard on Corolla Verso. ABS prevents wheels from locking when braking on a slippery road. EBD optimises brake force distribution between all four wheels. Together, the two systems enable you to steer around obstacles as you come to a stop. <br /><br /> Brake Assist (BA)* automatically supports emergency braking if the brakes are applied quickly but without sufficient pressure on the pedal. It measures how fast and hard the brake pedal is depressed and then, if appropriate, increases braking force. <br /><br /> * Available together with the optional Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)* actively intervenes when it senses that the vehicle is at risk of sliding out of control, for example going too quickly around a corner. It automatically applies the brake to the appropriate wheel to bring the car back to its intended path. <br /><br /> * Availability varies according to grade.
The Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) front seat design helps minimise the risk of neck whiplash injuries in low-speed, rear-end collisions. <br /><br /> In addition, both front seatbelts incorporate pre-tensioners and force-limiters to help reduce the likelihood of injuries in an accident.
The Corolla Verso features a strong, rigid body structure. This is combined with Toyota’s MICS (Minimal Intrusion Cabin System) in which components are designed to help absorb and disperse energy to minimise cabin distortion.
Scoring 35 out of a possible 37 points, the Corolla Verso was awarded the maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
