Toyota Optimal Drive Toyota Optimal Drive comes as standard on all Verso engines. It's an innovative technology that delivers a powerful balance of reduced fuel consumption and low CO<span class="sub">2</span> emissions without compromising on driving pleasure.

Engines this advanced are among the cleanest in their class. At the same time, power and torque are boosted for superior performance.
Engines 1.6 litre Valvematic This petrol engine option develops dynamic horsepower at 132 DIN hp for rapid acceleration, whilst reducing fuel consumption to just 6.8l/100km. Valvematic balances optimised driving pleasure with improved power/torque, engine response and greatly reduced CO<span class="sub">2</span> emissions (158g/km) by simultaneously controlling the valve timing and the valve lift.

Featuring Toyota Optimal Drive including Valvematic, the next generation of Toyota's VVT-i technology provides cleaner, more efficient combustion. This engine employs a 6-speed manual transmission.
1.8 litre Valvematic This larger petrol engine delivers dynamic horsepower at 147 DIN hp with improved power/torque, engine response and fuel consumption cut to a frugal 7.0l/100km. Safety Outstanding safety Verso has been awarded the maximum 5-star vehicle safety rating (2010), as a further testament to Toyota’s dedication to the safety and protection of drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike.
Airbags In the event of a collision, Verso ensures you and your family are protected with seven separate airbags.
<br /><br />
These include SRS driver and passenger airbags with proximity and rate of impact sensors to ensure proper deployment - helping to prevent injuries. SRS side airbags, SRS curtain shield airbags and a driver's knee airbag are also included as standard.
Active Headrest On impact, the passenger's lower back is pressed hard against the seatback. A built-in unit triggers the Active Headrest to move diagonally upward and forward to catch the back of the head. This alleviates neck impact and helps reduce the risk of whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision.
Active safety Verso comes with a host of active safety functions to ensure that you stay in control. Traction Control (TRC) will take action if you lose grip on the road, redistributing power to each wheel.

Meanwhile Vehicle Stability Control+ (VSC+) will automatically adjust steering and engine output where needed to help control Verso if it starts to slide or skid. Both are standard on all Verso grades.
Headlamps & LED stop lights Ultra-bright, high beam Halogen headlamps provide an improved spread of illumination - with an even more powerful, low energy, High Intensity Discharge (HID) Xenon* option on the Verso Premium grade. These distinctive headlamps are equipped with an automatic beam levelling control to reduce the tendency for high levels of glare.

Seat belts Verso seat belts have been designed with integral pre-tensioners and force limiters that help to reduce injuries to the chest area. The seats also feature special ISOFIX anchor points to safely and conveniently secure child seats.
Brakes Verso's advanced braking system features Anti-lock Braking (ABS) to help you maintain control by adjusting the brake force between all four wheels to match the level grip of each one. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) complements this by optimising brake force distribution between each wheel.
